My oldest sister told me this story about her birthday and it was just too funny not to share! The 2 main characters: Charlotte, 3, and Katie, now 30. Katie's birthday was on Tuesday, but on Monday, Katie and Charlotte were running errands at CVS.
So now that I've set the scene...The pair were on their way to check out when Charlotte decides that she absolutely must buy her mom a birthday card. Katie says that she doesn't need to, but Charlotte insists. Katie leads her towards the 99 cent cards. And after browsing for a few minutes, Charlotte settles on a pink, frilly, card that might have been age appropriate for any girl under the age of 6. On the front, there was a picture of a girl with a quote that said "Hey Little Girl" (a little creepy sounding to begin with...definitely weird for a soon-to-be 30 year old to be buying for herself).
Anyway, they go to the check out and Katie tells Charlotte she can pay her back once they get home (C has a piggy bank with change her parents' have put in their, money from family for birthdays, rewards for completing her chores, etc.) Charlotte, who never misses a beat, says: "No, mommy I think you should just pay for it since you have lots and lots of money!" Ha!
So they get home and Lee helps Charlotte sign the card, lick the envelope closed, and sneak the card onto Katie's placemat for her to "discover" Tuesday morning. Fast forward to Katie's birthday, she takes the dogs outside after waking up while Charlotte is inside eating breakfast. Charlotte greeted her mom at the door with the envelope opened and card out for Katie to see. The card that she bought for her own birthday was opened by the instigator of this whole thing! Man, that kid cracks me up.
Oh, and then she spent most of the day mad at Katie because she had mentioned the possibility of snow and when it didn't happen, Charlotte held that against her mom.
I just love having these stories written down so I can give Charlotte a hard time in a few years. :)
