FB #2

When I think of high school friends, my thoughts automatically turn to Foosball #2. FB was a "club" more or less that consisted of me and my closest 4 friends; Alexa, Bonnie, Carmen, and Mary. It all started the summer before my sophomore year when we started spending a lot of time together, most of that time was at Sarah Millard's aka "Ducky's Sister". But our group really meshed during sophomore year into the following summer. FB ran a few trial runs with letting other people in the group, but they just never seemed to have the fit that the 5 of us had.

We spent at least Tuesday night at someone's house (usually more than just Tuesday though, but always Tuesdays) and always did a craft, watched Golden Girls, and stayed up late doing who knows what. Each of us had a nickname (mine was Big Red, if you're curious) and 5 very different personalities, but something about us just worked.

The name came around sometime that summer before Senior year and just stuck. We debated for a while and took a vote on the name, tying between Tuesday Billiards (because we set Tuesday nights aside for us to hang out and billiards because the Millards had a pool table in their basement) and Foosball #2 (Carmen had a foosball table in her basement and I'm not really sure where the #2 came from...) Foosball #2 was shorten to FB#2 or just simply FB. All of our friends and families knew who we were talking about when we said that FB was hanging out and still do (well, at least my family does).

FB was honest, almost too open at times, we were willing to try just about anything, and helped Bonnie to be a little bit less naive. I'm sitting here, trying to think of a great story to capture what our friendship looked like, and nothing is really all that blog appropriate...hm....

We went to college and made a strong effort during freshman year to keep in touch and meet up over every break from school. But like most high school friendships, college slowly became a hindrance to our group and we drifted apart. This past week was the first time since Christmas of 2005 that I distinctly remember all 5 of us being together. We are all even more different now than we were in high school, but I think that made me appreciate even more that we were all together again after all of these years.
